Will Adam Lambert Be the New "American Idol" Mentor?

Credit: Neal PrestonAdam Lambert sat in as a judge for American Idol auditions in New York City on Wednesday, filling in for Keith Urban, who had to return to Australia when his father-in-law died suddenly. Whether or not Adam would like to make his affiliation with the show more permanent remains to be seen.TVLine.com notes that last year's official "mentor," Randy Jackson, has yet to be announced as returning for the show's next season.  So, would Adam himself want that job, since he did a good job as a guest "boot camp" mentor last year? The answer is --  maybe. The season eight runner-up tells TV Line, "I don't know...I have a lot going on.  I’m working on an album. We might go back out on the road with Queen -- so, I don’t know yet. There’s a lot happening.  Time is the issue."Even so, Adam says he likes the idea in theory. "I feel like [mentoring and guest judging] is a way to give back," he explains. "I know it sounds corny, but I want to help the contestants with the light bulb that could go off.”The 14th season of American Idol begins in January.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Nick Lachey to Release Album of Movie Soundtrack Songs

Courtesy: VH1Nick Lachey is on TV so often, it's sometimes hard to forget that he's a singer.  He's about to remind us, though, with a new album on November 11.As People reports, Nick's fourth solo album will be called Soundtrack of My Life: an apt title, considering it's made up of memorable songs from movie soundtracks.  He tells People, "I knew I wanted to do a cover album but wanted to go for a different concept. Soundtracks just felt like a cool angle on doing a cover record."Nick adds, "The marriage of music and film is one that has been talked about so much over the years, and the way music effects you when you're watching is film is so impactful."Among the songs Nick tackles: "Falling Slowly," from the film Once, which Nick says was his and his wife Vanessa's "theme song" at one point; and "What a Wonderful World," from Good Morning Vietnam. "They all have a story behind them and have a special meaning for me," Nick says of the disc's songs.Nick's plenty busy with non-music stuff as well.  He and Vanessa are expecting their second child, a girl, in January. He'll also return as host of VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live on September 29, and his A&E series, tentatively called Lachey's Bar, will premiere next year.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Aloe Blacc Talks Movie Plans, Possible Bruno Mars Collaboration

ABC/Adam TaylorThis past summer, "Wake Me Up" singer Aloe Blacc made his acting debut in Get On Up, the movie biography of the late Godfather of Soul, James Brown.  In addition to his music career, he now says he'd like to pursue a career in the movie business as well -- both in front of the camera and behind it."I really would love to," he tells ABC News Radio of his acting aspirations. "I'm definitely taking scripts in, I'm checking to see what kinda roles I think will fit...where I wanna go in my career as an actor, as a storyteller. But, I feel like I may be writing the story pretty soon. I have some ideas for films."Aloe, speaking backstage at Tuesday night's Dancing with the Stars, wouldn't reveal what those ideas are, but he was happy to talk about the fact that he's currently working on new music, which he says he'd like to release in 2015.  So, is there a chance that he'll collaborate on some new songs with Bruno Mars, since the two toured together all this past summer? "Aww, man, I wish. I hope so!" laughs Aloe. "I haven't talked to him since tour, we've both been running around, I've been all over the world since, and he's continuing to finish his tour. It would be great to get in the studio with a guy like Bruno Mars, he's the real deal, y'know: singer, songwriter, entertainer."  Next month, Aloe heads to Australia and New Zealand for more touring.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Rod Stewart Is "Halfway" Finished with New Album, Gives Sam Smith His Stamp of A

Credit: Penny LancasterRod Stewart's most recent album, Time, marked the first album in years that featured any new original material written by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.  Now, Rod's in the middle of writing a new album.  He says of his songwriting, "The flood gates have been reopened."Speaking to an Australian entertainment news website, Rod says, "I’m actually halfway through a new album. I was very encouraged by the success of Time, it was a very long period where I wasn’t writing any songs."  He adds, "It’s encouraged me to take another step forward and come up with more songs and I’m finding it quite easy. The flood gates have been reopened."Even so, Rod is reluctant to perform many new songs from Time in his live shows, because he knows that fans want to hear the hits. "It is a struggle," he says. "I’ve got a unique method. I’ll say ‘Ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to have to put you through the misery of a new song...just pretend you’re listening to 'Tonight’s the Night' and give it a big round of applause at the end!’""Usually they fall for that ploy and they do," he laughs. "It’s hard work selling new songs with the vast catalog I’ve got that people want to hear. They pay the money and they want to hear what they want to hear. It’s pointless being self-indulgent."While he's performing his old classics, Rod also keeps an eye out for what's new.  As a British blue-eyed soul singer himself, he says he's a fan of a younger one: Sam Smith.  "He’s brilliant. I absolutely love him," Rod says. "He’s really good, and for a big fella he’s a good dancer, too."Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Taylor Swift Named "People" Magazine's Best Dressed of 2014

Bret Hartman/CBSTaylor Swift not only kills it on the red carpet, she kills it every time she steps outside her New York City apartment. That's why the always-pulled-together singer has been named People magazine's Best Dressed for 2014.As People notes, the singer has "truly hit her style stride in the past 12 months," sporting amazing designer gowns at industry events, and chic casual ensembles on the street.  She even looks great coming from the gym.  Her BFF, supermodel Karli Kloss, tells the magazine, "She's got great style. I need to take some notes from her!"Taylor herself tells People, "I’m more willing to take a risk this year than ever before,” and describes her style as “feminine, leggy and ever-changing.” As far as other musical performers go, People magazine also singles out Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez on its Best-Dressed top-10 list, which is unranked.  The mag calls Rihanna "the biggest risk-taker," offering as evidence the see-through gown she wore to accept her Fashion Icon award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.  Speaking about his client's fashion choices, Rihanna's stylist tells the magazine, "Being sexy is totally a part of it. It’s also about having fun, though, and just experimenting with fashion."As for that ageless beauty J-Lo, the magazine says, "[She] has yet to meet a skin-baring trend she doesn't like … or can't pull off."  Her stylists tell the magazine, "She looks phenomenal in everything, so we get to have more fun playing with her looks rather than analyzing what needs to be avoided."People mag also inducts some Best Dressed Couples into its Style Hall of Fame, and Adam Levine and his supermodel wife Behati Prinsloo are among them, as are John Legend and his supermodel wife, Chrissy Teigen.  Voice coach and country star Blake Shelton and his wife, fellow country star Miranda Lambert, also made the cut.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
