John Mayer to Fill In as Host of CBS' "The Late Late Show" in February

Eric McCandless/CBSA couple of years ago, there was talk that John Mayer was going to get his own musical variety show on CBS.  Well, that never materialized, but the singer is getting a chance to guest-host a previously existing CBS show.Craig Ferguson is stepping down as the host of The Late Late Show on December 19, and the new host, British personality James Corden, doesn't take over until March 9.  To fill the gaps, CBS is lining up a variety of fill-in hosts, and John is one of them. In fact, he's the only musician tapped to do it, but it's not clear if he'll be performing as well.John says on Twitter that he'll be hosting the show for three nights, during the week leading up to the Grammys in February.  He adds, "Three days might not seem like a long time, but it's exactly as long as it takes to mail a letter to CBS saying 'please make this stop.'"John is joining other guest hosts like Drew Carey -- who'll kick things off January 5, and will also do the final fill-in week on March 2 -- plus Judd Apatow, Will Arnett, Wayne Brady, comedian Jim Gaffigan and former Will & Grace star Sean Hayes.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Lady Gaga Reveals What It's Like to Record with "Gentleman" Tony Bennett

ABC/Lou RoccoWhat was it like for Lady Gaga to record with Tony Bennett for their #1 album, Cheek to Cheek?  According to Gaga, it was every bit as cool as you might imagine."He's just such a gentleman. He's all about the music and he's all about the art," Gaga said on Wednesday's The View. "You know, when he's not singing, he's making paintings and he's sketching, and when he's not sketching, he's singing or he's creating arrangements or building a school for kids to learn about music.  Tony sketches me all the time while we're working."Bennett also sets a dapper tone on the job.  "He always has a suit on when I come into the studio, and all of the players always stand up for me when I arrive and the music is all laid out for me," Lady Gaga says.As for why Bennett's still going strong at age 88, his answer is simple: "Well, I love to entertain people. I could've retired 17 years ago but I love it so much I never wanna stop."Gaga and Tony have booked a number of concert dates together for 2015, including shows at prestigious venues like New York's Radio City Music Hall, London's Royal Albert Hall, and Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. The two will ring in 2015 with a performance in Las Vegas.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Billy Joel Denies He Smoked Cigarettes with Obama

Lloyd Bishop/NBCThere have been some odd rumors about Billy Joel over the years, but one recent one prompted the Piano Man to issue a statement.  It turns out he did not, during a recent trip to the White House, take a smoke break with President Obama. The D.C. publication The Hill claimed earlier this week that Billy was overheard at a Washington bar telling someone, "I was at the White House recently, and President Obama...said, ‘I’m going out on the North Portico to have a smoke. Do you want to come with me?”  According to the publication's claim, Billy said that he replied, "Well, I haven’t smoked in a long time,” but then admitted that he couldn't turn down the offer. The Hill further reported that Billy may have been referring to the time last December when he was at the White House for the Kennedy Center Honors. However, Billy said in a statement to the New York Daily News. "The Obama part of the story is completely untrue. Nothing like that ever happened. I think their 'spy' had a few too many cocktails at that bar."But if the "Obama part" of the story isn't true, which part is?  Likely the other half of The Hill's report.  It stated that Billy told a source at the bar that when he was on Capitol Hill last week to accept the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, he was in Rep. John Boehner's office, and the Speaker of the House "pulled out a pack of cigarettes and offered me one. And I said, ‘No thanks, I quit.’”Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Taylor Swift Makes Way for One Direction at #1; Christmas Albums Complete Top 10

ABC/Ida Mae AstuteOne Direction's new album, FOUR, has debuted at #1 on the album chart, which means that Taylor Swift's ex-boyfriend has now replaced her in the top spot.Taylor's album 1989, which has spent three weeks at #1, now slips to #2 as her ex Harry Styles and the rest of 1D take over the top slot with FOUR.  Ironically, Harry allegedly inspired some of the songs on 1989. With first-week sales of 387,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan, FOUR notches the second-largest sales debut of the year, after -- you guessed it -- Taylor's album.  It's also the largest sales week for a group in 2014.Despite the good news, sales of FOUR were slightly down from projected totals of 420,000 copies.  The band's most recent disc, 2013's Midnight Memories, opened with 546,000 copies.Meanwhile, 1989 has now sold 2.21 million copies.  There are five weeks left in the sales year, so if 1989 at its current pace, it may overtake what is currently the best-selling album of 2014: the Frozen soundtrack, which has moved 3.27 million copies.Speaking of Frozen, Christmas albums have overtaken the rest of the top ten, as That's Christmas to Me, the latest from a cappella group Pentatonix, jumps to #3, while  Frozen star Idina Menzel's album, Holiday Wishes, jumps to #10 on a 39% sales increase.  Michael Buble's 2011 album, Christmas, is also back in the top 10, currently at #9.  It's returned to the top 10 every year since it first came out.Elsewhere on the chart, Nickelback's new album, No Fixed Address, has debuted at #4.  It's the Canadian rock band's sixth top-10 album.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

John Legend Admits It Wasn't Love at First Sight for Him & Supermodel Wife

Image Courtesy Brian Bowen Smith As much as you might like to think John Legend fell head-over-heels the first time he met his supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen, it's simply not true.  Even though she went on to inspire his #1 hit "All of Me," John tells Los Angeles Confidential magazine it wasn't love at first sight."Not right away," he tells the magazine. "I’m more cautious than that. I wasn’t like, ‘This is the woman I’m going to marry’ from day one. For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling."He adds, "It was probably a couple of years in, when I could already see us being together forever." Speaking about writing "All of Me" about Chrissy, though, John explains, "The more you know someone, the more you’re inspired by your relationship. Also, I grew up just learning what it means to be in love with somebody… because I had never really been in love before. I guess you have to grow enough to be able to write that song with sincerity and authenticity."While "All of Me" is a great song in and of itself, John says he thinks the fact that he performed the tune on the Grammys telecast is the thing that really turned it into a monster single."The Grammys really vaulted that song from a song that was kind of chugging along on the radio but not breaking through in the way we believed it should and could -- the Grammys took it from No. 49 on iTunes to No. 3 in one night," he tells the magazine. "That was the single most important element that made ‘All of Me’ a huge hit. I’m grateful to them for that and everything that came before that.”You can read more of John's cover story in the December/January issue of Los Angeles Confidential.Follow --ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Lorde Recalls Milkshakes with Taylor Swift, Plugs "Hunger Games" Soundtrack on "

Douglas Gorenstein/NBCLorde says she met Taylor Swift for the first time when the two got together in New York City and bonded over milkshakes at the fast food outlet Shake Shack.During an appearance on The Tonight Show Tuesday to plug The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack, which she curated, the 18-year-old New Zealand native said Taylor reached out to her first by sending her flowers.  "She sent me some flowers, which was so nice," Lorde told Fallon. "She sent them to my house and said like, 'congratulations on everything." And I was like, 'God.'"The singer said they eventually "met up" in New York at Shake Shack. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 soundtrack features performances by a number of artists, including Ariana Grande, Charli XCX and Lorde herself. The singer told Fallon she didn't know anything about putting a movie soundtrack together, but somehow managed to get it finished in record time, despite being in the middle of a concert tour."I think it took like two-and-a-half months, which was like kind of abnormally short," she recalls. "And I was on the road on the tour bus and I would literally run offstage...and get into my bed on the tour bus and just start work for the day on it."Lorde told Fallon she "called, texted and emailed" artists to get them on board.Later, Lorde performed "Yellow Flicker Beat," her song from the soundtrack. The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1 original motion picture soundtrack is available now.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

"The Voice" Recap: Ryan Sill Saved Again

Trae Patton/NBCFor the second week in a row, Ryan Sill has been saved by the viewers during a Voice results show. The Team Gwen Stefani member again benefited from the "instant save" Tuesday night after he, his teammate Anita Antoinette, and Team Blake Shelton's Reagan James were in danger of elimination. Each artist performed for the viewers, who then cast their "instant save" votes on Twitter and The Voice app. Ryan sang Howie Day's "Collide," Anita covered the Jason Mraz hit "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)," and Reagan delivered a rendition of Nelly Furtado's "I'm Like a Bird."Earlier in the night, recent Voice adviser Taylor Swift performed her latest hit, "Blank Space." Afterward, she thanked her fans for the success of 1989, and remarked that she has a "permanent smile" on her face after taking a risk with her top-selling pop album. The one-hour results show also featured performances by Adam Levine and his artists, who sang Billy Joel's "Only the Good Die Young," and Pharrell Williams and his protégés, who belted out Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World."Toward the end of his team's performance, Pharrell revised the lyrics and sang, "And I think to myself, we need justice to unfurl," a likely reference to the turmoil in Ferguson, Missouri, this week after a grand jury decided not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed teenager Michael Brown. The top eight will take the stage next Monday night on NBC.Follow @ABCNewsRadio !function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Courtesy People MagazineAfter a year of flaunting the fact that he landed the title of People's Sexiest Man Alive, Adam Levine was forced to relinquish it earlier this month for this year's hottie: Chris Hemsworth, star of The Avengers and the Thor movies.  But the Maroon 5 frontman says there's no hard feelings between himself and the Australian actor.Speaking to Access Hollywood Live, Adam says of Hemsworth, "Listen he's a super, super good looking [guy]. Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett Unwrap New Holiday Ad for H&M

Courtesy H&MLady Gaga and Tony Bennett have unveiled their new commercial for H&M's new holiday campaign.  Called "Magical Holidays," the one-minute, 40-second spot features Gaga and Bennett as just one element of a special holiday party. The clip starts with a woman, back to the camera, carrying a gift-wrapped box down a hall. Then we see a couple making out in the back of a bus, which opens up to reveal a band on a ship, with a female captain giving gifts to a family.  We travel through the porthole in the ship, and we're in a log cabin, where a bunch of young people are partying in front of a roaring fire.  One woman climbs a staircase to the attic, and pops out of a gold box, dressed in a glamorous outfit, into a ballroom where elegantly attired people are dancing in front of a stage. Finally, 40 seconds into the ad, we see Gaga and Tony onstage. She's wearing a huge curly wig and a dark green dress; he's wearing a tux.  They dance for a bit, and then sing "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)," one of the standards from their jazz album Cheek to Cheek.  As they finish the number, the camera pulls out to reveal that the whole scene has taken place inside the box that the woman in the first scene was carrying down the hall. The woman, now revealed to be Gaga in heavy eye makeup and a white fur hat, replaces the lid and walks out of the room and back down the hall.Follow --ABCNewsRadio!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio

Joni Mitchell Put the Kibosh on Film that Would Have Starred Taylor Swift as Her

ABC/Ida Mae AstuteA couple of years ago, there was talk of a movie version of the book Girls Like Us, which focused on the impact of female musicians Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King.  There was also word that Taylor Swift had been cast as Mitchell in the film, but it was never made.  Now Mitchell is claiming it was she who pulled the plug on the project.Speaking to the Sunday Times of London, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer says, “I squelched that! I said to the producer, ‘All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones. It’s just a lot of gossip, you don’t have the great scenes.’"  She also said that she didn't agree with the source material, which was written by Sheila Weller.  "There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books: assumptions, assumptions, assumptions,” Mitchell tells The Times. In October of 2012, Taylor said she was eager to portray Mitchell, telling Rolling Stone, ""I wish I could say it's confirmed! But the thing about movies that I've learned is -- I've been reading scripts for five years, and you just don't know what ones are going to get greenlit and which ones aren't, so I can't talk about it unless it's the real thing."Girls Like Us would've been Taylor's first dramatic role, after making her acting debut in the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine's Day.  She finally got that dramatic role this year, when she appeared in the movie The Giver.Follow --ABCNewsRadio!function(d,s,id){var js,fjs=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];if(!d.getElementById(id)){js=d.createElement(s);js.id=id;js.src="http://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js";fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js,fjs);}}(document,"script","twitter-wjs");Copyright 2014 ABC News Radio
